It beats the previous high set in 2018, and relegates the famously hot summer of 1976 to sixth place. The persistent heat drove water shortfalls, hosepipe bans and "false autumn".

Clear article summarising recent statistics released by the MetOffice. It would be nice to have URLs towards their data releases or further information rather than just quoting the figures. It does a reasonable job of explaining the metrics and terms (e.g. false autumn). However the plot could be substantially improved to emphasise the relevant trend - it currently seems no better than a simple list of the top 10 years & temperatures, and requires the viewer to work out the ordering of the years. Including the intervening years (or at least giving some indication of the range of summer temperatures) would place the temperatures in context, and emphasise the increasing frequency of hot summers.
